I suggest you wear loose comfortable clothing. Surgery can take approximately 1 hour for a single hernia. Depending on the complexity of the hernia and its size, surgery may take more or less time. Most people spend 1- 2 hours recovering from surgery in the hospital.

Yes you can wear a girdle after recovery fom hernia surgery. We do not recommend wearing hernia supports such as trusses or large corsets after hernia surgery because these only irritate the wound and do not have the benefit of preventing another hernia.
Should you wear a hernia belt?
When supervised by a physician, the hernia belt can be used to minimize symptoms and the need for immediate surgery. These belts are safe and effective; however, surgery is still the best way to avoid an emergency situation. In our practice we see many patients who have used a hernia truss for weeks to years.
How much should you walk after hernia surgery?

People may be able to walk up to a few miles a day in the first couple of weeks. Most people will be able to resume full activity two weeks after hernia mesh surgery. It can be as long as four weeks with non-mesh hernia surgery.
Can I sit after hernia surgery?
You must also be able to sit comfortably for a long period of time, even if you do not plan to go far. You might get caught in traffic. Most people are able to return to work within 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. You may shower 24 to 48 hours after surgery, if your doctor okays it.
